So as the majority of our guests are aware, we have been blogging about food for quite some time now. It only seemed appropriate that we used this practice to put together a wedding blog/website, so that we can give all of our lovely guests information about the Big Day as plans are made.
Firstly, please see The Details post for where and when the Big Day is happening.
We have sent the invitations early! We are aware that most of our guests are coming from far afield, so we wanted to give you plenty of time to look at hotels, travel etc. Please see the post on Hotels/Accommodation for more information.
We would also thoroughly encourage you to spend some time in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas whilst you are up in Bonny Scotland! Please see the post on Things To See and Do for some inspiration.
For information about gifts, please see the Gift List post.
Please sign up to the mailing list on the site - this will enable us to contact you with any necessary updates and interesting info!
Joe and Jo's Wedding 2012
Welcome to our wedding blog. This is not a blog so much as a web page where we post information about the big day and all festivities.

Food
So the wedding is just around the corner! We are absolutely delighted so many people are able to come and are looking forward to a fabulous day full of much joy and merriment.
But before all that, there is some business to attend to: the all important food!
We are offering options of starters and main courses, but we need to tell our lovely wedding planner the choices in advance. Please can you let us know by 25 August 2012 your choices for the starter and main course.
If you have any questions then let us know, otherwise we look forward to hearing from you all soon.
With much love, Joe and Jo xx

The Details
On the Day
The ceremony and reception will both be held at the Royal Scots Club in Edinburgh on 29 September 2012.
The ceremony is scheduled to start at 2.00pm so we would be grateful if guests would arrive between 1.30pm and 2.00pm.
Following the ceremony there will be drinks, photos, food, more drinking and dancing!
The Location
The venue is a beautiful Georgian private members club with a small number of hotel rooms (only 20!). It is located on Abercromby Place in the city centre, 15 minutes' walk from Edinburgh Waverley Station. It is also 5 minutes' walk from the city parking limits, for those who would like to drive and leave their cars, to park for free (contact us for more info on this).
Although there is parking on the road outside the venue, this is limited to 2 hour stay periods, so please bear this in mind when making travel arrangements.

Things to See and Do
Edinburgh is absolutely stuffed to the rafters with fun things to see and do. We wanted to suggest just a small selection of fun things to keep you entertained, should you want to make a proper weekend of it.
Visit Edinburgh Castle. As well as still being working barracks, Edinburgh Castle is a World Heritage Site, overlooking the whole city. You can take a guided tour, see the Scottish crown jewels (the oldest in the UK!), where Mary Queen of Scots lived, the national war museum and much more.
Climb a volcano! Edinburgh is the only city with an extinct volcano within the city limits, and Arthur's Seat is well worth a visit. It's the tallest of Edinburgh's seven hills, and is a bit of an aerobic work out, but the views are astonishing if you can make it to the top. If you fancy some fresh air, but are feeling a little less energetic, there is also a lovely loch at the foot and the Palace of Holyrood (the Queen's residence in Edinburgh).
Do the Scotch Whisky Experience. You simply cannot visit Edinburgh without trying some whisky, so why not throw in a barrel ride through a replica distillery to add to the fun. The shop has over 300 varieties of single malt, grain, and blended scotch whiskies for a perfect souvenir as well.
If you're looking for indoor activities, you can do a lot worse than the National Museum of Scotland on Chamber Street, or any of the other many museums around the place.
We would recommend simply having a wander around the Old Town - the Royal Mile and surrounding areas such as the Grassmarket have lots of interesting nooks and crannies, shops, pubs and restaurants to check out.
And for those with a sense of childish adventure, take an Edinburgh bus tour. We took one recently and it was a lot of fun (although wrap up warm - it's a little chilly on the open top bus!).

Hotels/Accommodation
For those of you who have not been to Edinburgh before, we thought it might be useful to give you some inspiration of where you might stay (disclaimer: Joe and Jo take no responsibility for the hotels we recommend!). The good thing is, the Royal Scots Club is in the city centre, so as well as the small number of rooms in the venue itself, there are a multitude of other places close by as well.
This is just a short list of possible places to stay for some inspiration, but Edinburgh has a plethora of hotels and accommodation, to suit all tastes and budgets and there are many more good hotels out there.
The Balmoral
The Balmoral is an Edinburgh legend, sat at the East end of Princes Street and next to Waverley station. A (very) short walk from all amenities - shops, bars, restaurants, touristy things to visit. It has a pool and spa, Michelin starred restaurant, brasserie, bar etc.
10 minutes' walk to the Royal Scots Club.
Hotel Missoni
Hotel Missoni is modern hotel on George IV Bridge, close to the Royal Mile and the pubs in the Grass Market. It's a short walk from Waverley station, Princes Street and Princes Street Gardens.
15 minutes walk to The Royal Scots Club.
Apex Waterloo Place Hotel
Apex Waterloo is a 4* large hotel on Waterloo Placed at the east End of Princes Street, a few minutes' walk from Waverley station, and near shops, bars, restaurants etc. There is also a pool and spa for winding down. The website has a number of offers on room rates.
It is a 10 minute walk from the Royal Scots Club.
Holiday Inn Express, Picardy Place
10 minutes' walk from the Royal Scots Club.
Travelodge, Waterloo Place
15 minutes' walk from the Royal Scots Club.
Travelodge, Queens Street
This Travelodge opens in April 2012 and is a mere 5 minutes walk from the venue on the lovely Queen Street.
For apartments, check out InnerCityLets, which has a number of apartments sleeping between 4 and 8 in the city centre. Some of these are even located on the same street as our venue (Abercromby Place) or nearby, e.g. Albany Place. If you're coming up for more than one night this may be a great option.
